More Information On Dog Shows

Dog shows are generally exhibit purebred dogs. Purebred dogs that most nearly conform to their breed's standard traits, skills, and physical characteristics are judged to be the best.

1. Best Class Judging
This exercise is  divided by gender and age. Dogs are posed and subject to the judge's inspection of their build, structure, fur color and texture, and correct head, tail, bite and ear-set. The handlers then run the dogs around the show ring, checking the movement / motion associated with the breed.

2. Best Female / Male Judging
The best male and female dogs are chosen from each Class resulting in the Winners Dog and Winners Bitch. Points are awarded and when a dog receives 15 points, they earn the title of 'Champion'.

3. Best of Breed Judging
The resulting Champion Dogs then compete for the Best of Breed competition.

4. Best Group Judging
The winners from each breed class go on to the Group Ring, which includes: a) Hound, b)Working, c)Sporting, d)Non-Sporting, e)Terrier, f)Toy, and g)Herding groups is designated as the first-place winner for their category.

5. Best In Show Judging
Of the finalists in each of the seven groups, one dog is picked for the top honor of Best in Show.

It does cost to show a dog. The general condition of the dog must be excellent - a function of exercise and diet - plus dog show supplies, showing equipment and entry fees. Handlers need special vehicles, like a large van that will hold crates, for transporting dogs to shows.

It's a good idea to go to dog shows to talk to groomers and handlers about what type of care certain breeds require - plus, visit the vendors and sales booths for the best dog show and grooming supplies and information products.
