The St Bernard is a very large dog originally bred as a snow rescue dog. They have a dense coat that requires little grooming. The St Bernard is very gentle, tolerant of children, animals and strangers. An extremely intelligent dog that is easy to train and obedient. It is important for a dog of this size to begin training at a young age, because even a strong adult may be over-powered by a disobedient St Bernard. Messy dogs that tend to drool a lot.
